Many people don't know that Punan Village in Kukou Township holds the title of "Home of Eels," and it is the only community in all of Taiwan where the entire community engages in eel farming. From the opening of the first eel pond in ROC Year 58 (1969) to the peak of the eel industry in ROC Year 75 (1986), nearly 96% of the village's population was involved in eel farming, creating both Taiwan's economic miracle and the prestigious title of "Kingdom of Eels." The First Eel Pool, as its name implies, is the very first eel pond in the "Home of Eels." It has weathered the difficult years of the eel industry and embodies the spirit of the Hai Kou people facing harsh environments, enduring hardships with their bare hands and unyielding determination, and never bowing to fate.
