After five years of preparation, the Children's Art Education Center was officially opened to the public on 2014 Children's Day with funding from the TSMC Cultural and Educational Foundation and additional support from the Taipei City Government. This was achieved through dedicated efforts of the museum staff and architectural design team. The opening exhibition, titled "Gift," symbolized its mission as a gift to future generations. The visual signage adopts a stacking arrangement of geometric cubes, inspired by the tubular structural elements of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Window motifs represent children's curiosity, as they peek through windows to explore the vast world beyond. Based on existing spatial conditions, the Center has transformed peripheral areas into central operational zones and gradually integrated contemporary educational philosophies. Beyond emphasizing learning as a core value, in 2015 it aimed to expand the definition of education to include innovative knowledge production methods and museum experiences. Traditionally, art museums focused on collecting and displaying artworks (object-oriented curation and exhibitions). The Center shifts toward viewer-centered positioning, becoming not only a repository of artistic treasures but also an accessible public space for recreation, social interaction, and artistic awareness in daily life. It emphasizes participatory learning, encouraging visitors to engage through peer discussions, exploring diverse interpretations, and establishing new relationships between the North Taipei Fine Arts Museum and its audience. Contemporary art encompasses multidisciplinary knowledge and emphasizes critical thinking and social engagement. In 2016, the Center's educational initiatives evolved from exhibition-based concepts to formal "Educational Programs," launching one to two annual programs that combine thematic exhibitions and creative workshops co-designed by internal educators and contemporary artists. Here, educators serve as both interpreters of art and facilitators of experiential learning, while artists transition from passive creators to active contributors to learning experiences. On one hand, the Center uses artists as role models, enabling children to explore diverse perspectives through creative thinking, artistic vision, and problem-solving approaches. On the other hand, collaborations between educators and artists foster interactive installations that transform experiences from passive visual observation to active sensory participation. Through these educational programs, audiences become explorers of human potential, gradually developing visual literacy and critical conceptual reasoning skills.
