In light of global warming, climate change, energy conservation, and carbon reduction being a common concern worldwide and an important national policy, there is a sense of urgency and importance in rooting environmental education from a young age. In 2007, the New Taipei City Government's Education Bureau began planning the "New Taipei City Sustainable Environment Education Center", which officially opened on January 19, 2008, as a hub for promoting sustainable environmental education, conservation, and research in New Taipei City. Located in the "Waizaiwei" area of New Taipei City, near the Bali Ferry Terminal in a nature reserve, the center was originally the "Bali Left Bank Clubhouse". Today, it collaborates with academic groups to integrate environmental education with school curricula, providing hands-on environmental education materials for school students. The center combines with elementary and junior high schools in various districts of New Taipei City to promote environmental education, focusing on sustainable campuses, wetland ecology, low-carbon schools, marine environments, and ecological cycles.
