The athletics field mentioned here was reorganized into the Provincial Stadium in 1960; at that time there were no grandstands. In 1963 it was rebuilt into a standard 400-meter blue-curve track, and in 1974 a concrete grandstand was added. The Regional Games were held here in 1976, and night lighting was installed in 1991. With government subsidies, continuous renovation, landscaping, and beautification followed, and in 2004 it was renamed the Stadium of National Taichung Institute of Physical Education. The field covers 122,264 m² and can hold 25,000 spectators. Visitors coming from afar are advised to park in the lots on Sanmin Road or Yizhong Street and walk to the National Taiwan University of Sport venues; bus riders should get off at the Taichung Stadium stop to arrive.
