The City Hall building, where the Taipei City Government is located, is one of the landmarks of the Xinyi District. It is situated at the end of Ren'ai Road. If you take a bird's-eye view of the city government from Taipei 101, you can see that the entire building is in the shape of "Double Ten". The Taipei Exploration Hall, located inside the City Hall building, has rich exhibition content and guided tours. It is the first stop for many domestic and foreign tourists to get to know Taipei.
The Taipei City Government is the administrative organ of Taipei City. It was established in October 1955. On July 1, 1967, it was officially reorganized into a directly governed municipality. After the reorganization, the Mayor of Taipei City was originally appointed by the government, until December 25, 1994, when it was changed to an elected mayor.
Since the reorganization, with the urgent need for municipal construction, the organizational structure has undergone changes. In addition to abolishing and merging outdated organizations, many new ones have been established. Currently, the city government has 23 departments, including the Department of Civil Affairs, Department of Finance, Department of Education, Department of Economic Development, Public Works Department, Transportation Department, Department of Social Welfare, Department of Labor, Police Department, Department of Health, Environmental Protection Department, Department of Urban Development, Department of Culture, Fire Department, Taipei Metro Department, Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Administration, Tourism and Communications Department, Land Department, Military Service Department, Department of Sports, Department of Information, Department of Justice, and Youth Department.
There are also 5 offices: the Secretariat, Accounting Office, Personnel Office, Government Affairs Office, and Civil Service Training Office. In addition, there are 4 committees: the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission, the Urban Planning Commission, the Committee on Indigenous Affairs, and the Hakka Affairs Committee.
Other organizations include the Taipei Water Supply Company, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, Engineering Corps, and the Movable Property Pawn Office, as well as 12 district public offices. (Source: Taipei City Government website)
