南投縣魚池鄉中正路63號
During the Japanese colonial era, there were two temples on the shores of Sun Moon Lake: the Dragon and Phoenix Palace in Shuishe Village and the Yihua Hall in Buji Village (now Yueyue Village). However, with the construction of the hydroelectric power plant by the Japanese, the water level of Sun Moon Lake rose, and both temples had to be relocated. The Electric Power Stock Company acquired the assets of the temples, and the temples used the funds to merge and rebuild on a new site. In 1934, the temples were rebuilt on the north shore of Sun Moon Lake at Songbai Luan, and the relocation was completed in 1938. In 1969, the Temple of Confucius and the Temple of the Gods of War were rebuilt as North Chinese-style architecture, with a grand and majestic scale. The temple complex consists of three halls: the front hall, the second floor of which is the Shuiyun Palace, worshiping the Founding Ancestor and the God of Literature and Wisdom; the middle hall, the Hall of the Gods of War, worshiping the God of War and General Yue Fei; and the rear hall, the Hall of Great Accomplishments, worshiping the great sage Confucius and other sages. The gods of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism all reside in the same hall. The Hall of Great Accomplishments in the Temple of Confucius and the Gods of War is the only Confucian temple in Taiwan with a central gate, which, according to the temple authorities, was built for the convenience of tourists. The bronze statue of Confucius in the Hall of Great Accomplishments is the only one in Taiwan, accompanied by statues of Mencius and Zigong, which were originally in China and later moved to Japan, and then replicated and moved to the temple. The statues of Yan Hui and Zengzi were later funded by their descendants and placed alongside Confucius. The two giant red stone lions on either side of the temple square are also a popular attraction, donated by Wu Huoshi, the founder of the New Light Group, and are often jokingly referred to as "Wu Huoshi" by locals. The temple, backed by a mountain and facing a lake, has a magnificent and beautiful scenery, and is a faith center for nearby residents, with incense and fire burning vigorously. Climbing to the observation deck of the rear hall offers a panoramic view of Sun Moon Lake, with a broad and embracing vision.
