新北市中和區漳和濕地
Zhanghe Wetland lies within the National Freeway No. 3 Zhonghe circular interchange, covering 6.7 hectares with a water surface of 0.9 hectares. Completed and opened in 2013, it is New Taipei City’s first urban artificial wetland park. The park was later closed due to seismic retrofitting of the freeway and did not reopen to the public until December 2021. Natural engineering keeps the cycle alive Built along the original landform, Zhanghe Wetland uses low-carbon, energy-saving natural purification techniques. After treatment, the cleaned water is returned to the irrigation channels, creating an endless water cycle. By shaping varied water bodies and pairing them with native plants, habitat biodiversity is enriched; the wetland even grows wild rice shoots, water lilies, and taro to promote farm-to-table education. An urban paradise for flora and fauna Zhanghe Wetland boasts rich biodiversity: 116 butterfly species, 90 recorded bird species, and over 384 planted plant species. It is home to swallowtails, whites, Taiwan blue magpies, Taiwan barbets, and crested serpent eagles, and has reintroduced endangered species such as Rhododendron kanehirai. Zhanghe Wetland accepts visitors by reservation only; guided tours are led by trained docents. Visitors can apply for entry on the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Department website and enjoy an ecological journey in an urban corner.
