Sifenwei Mountain lies in the range just south of Xizhi’s downtown. Named for its pyramid-like silhouette, it forms the boundary for four surrounding settlements and is also known as Jiadongjiao Mountain. From the Tianshou Temple trailhead the one-way hike is about 2.8 km, first passing the famous “Little Baiyue” peak, Xizhi Dajian Mountain. While Dajian tops out at a little over 400 m, Sifenwei rises to 641 m, offering an even loftier vantage. On clear days the skyline of Taipei spreads out below, and to the northeast both Keelung Harbor and Keelung Island stand plainly in view. In earlier times the mountain served as the obligatory crossing between Xizhi, Shiding, and Nangang; enjoying the scenery today also retraces the footsteps of those who went before us.
