Sanshia District’s mountain yams are harvested from September to March the following year. These yams produced by local farmers are health food stars in traditional markets, with multiple ways of consuming them raw with sauce, stir-fried, used as soup bases, or prepared as hot pot ingredients—each loved by health-conscious consumers. In Sanshia, two main varieties of mountain yam are cultivated: the red-skinned and white-fleshed Yangmingshan lineage as well as the indigenous variety. The Sanshia Agricultural Cooperative has processed the mountain yam into powder by adding sugar and brown sugar to create three unique-flavored yam tea drinks, including black sesame, milk, and purple rice. The mountain yam powder, with its distinctive, delicate texture and low calories, serves as an ideal balance to rich, heavy meals. Its uniquely smooth and healthy yam powder tea is brewed easily and enjoyed by people of all ages, spreading an aromatic delight wherever and whenever it is comfortably prepared.
