JxAcces, a Japanese-style sundry store in Jiayi, has been in operation for nearly 10 years, exuding a unique charm that attracts tourists from outside the area. Many people are surprised when they push open the door: "How can it be a male owner?" And a handsome one at that! Perhaps this is the store's greatest draw. The local Jiayi "oba" (a term of endearment for a handsome, stylish man) says that he entered this industry after being discharged from the military and helping a friend sell goods at a night market, where he developed an interest in it. He has a particular fondness for certain era's anime figurines, such as Japanese-style Cherry Blossom Little Maruko, Crayon Shin-chan, and Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro... as well as American-style Tom and Jerry, Snoopy, and Toy Story-related merchandise, which are all strong suits of JxAcces.
In addition to many imported accessories and daily necessities, JxAcces has also launched another product line in recent years, showcasing the handmade works of local Jiayi creators, such as tote bags, coin purses, and card holders made from tear-resistant, water-washable cowhide paper, as well as cat-themed tote bags that are hard to resist. The oba says that some customers who used to study in Jiayi and have since returned to their hometowns will occasionally visit Jiayi and deliberately come to the store to reminisce about their youthful years, which is very heartwarming.
