The Maritime Museum of Tamkang University is located on the campus of Tamkang University. The museum is housed in a ship-shaped building with a total floor area of 2,134 square meters and five stories. The museum showcases various ship models from around the world, from the Age of Exploration in the 15th to 17th centuries to modern ships with advanced propulsion systems, including over sixty models. All the ship models on display are handcrafted and scaled down to their original proportions. The museum was originally the Merchant Marine School of Tamkang University, which was renovated and reopened as the Maritime Museum in 1990. It was the first maritime museum in Taiwan to offer free admission to the public. The museum features a diverse collection of ship models, including the Santa Maria, the Treasure Ship of Zheng He, the Titanic, and the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier. Additionally, it offers a simulated engine room and bridge, as well as a large globe with 20,000 place names and a surface area of 3,200 square inches, providing a wealth of information on maritime navigation.
