This land god temple is the oldest in Lukang, having been constructed even earlier than the third year of the Yongzheng era (1725) during the Qing dynasty. In the past, Lukang built a land god temple at each of the five cardinal directions: east, west, south, north, and center, to guard them. Today, only the northern land god temple remains in an independent, dedicated building, while most of the others have been moved into other temples.
