Kawaliwali of Dapo is the oldest Amis tribe established in Dasi Township. According to records, as early as the 1880s, Amis people from Hengchun had settled in the area to form the tribe. Later, many Amis tribes in Dasi Township were established through branches of the Dapo tribe. The Kawaliwali tribe is located on the right side of the Dasi Dapo Lake. "Kawaliwali" means "Eastern" in the Amis language, originally signifying that the tribe is situated east of Dapo Lake. Dapo Lake is a naturally formed lake between the Central Mountain Range and Coastal Mountain Range. Its primary water source is from the Shingwuoli Creek. It is the only inland freshwater wetland in Taiwan. 【Source: Tribe Travel Guide for Fengtaitung, Tribe Backpacker】
