Google Workspace users can now benefit from Gemini summary cards in the Gmail app on Android and iOS devices. This feature, designed for Google Workspace Business, Enterprise, and Google One AI Premium customers, as well as those with the Gemini Education add-on, aims to streamline email management by automatically summarizing long email threads.
Gemini summary cards are available at the top of the email content for messages where a summary is helpful, such as longer email threads or messages with several replies. The summaries are synthesized from all key points in the email thread and any subsequent replies, keeping summaries up to date. Users can collapse a Gemini summary card, and it will remain collapsed in that email thread. Additional control improvements are forthcoming.
This feature is currently available for emails in English. Gmail remains committed to protecting user data and prioritizing privacy. Users who do not wish to use Gemini AI summaries can disable the feature by turning off 'Smart Features' in their Gmail settings.
Users have the ability to collapse Gemini summary cards, and if a user frequently collapses these cards, future threads will default to a collapsed state until expanded again. To disable Gemini AI summaries entirely, users must turn off 'Smart Features' in their Gmail settings, which also disables other related features like grammar suggestions, smart compose, and smart reply.
