The Lushui-Huliu Trail is a segment of the Hehuan Ridge Ancient Path, located at the 172-kilometer mark of the Central Cross-Island Highway. The trailhead is on the left side of the Lushui Geological Exhibit Center. Measuring approximately 2 kilometers in length, the path connects the terrace of the Lushui River to the Huliu Plateau. The entire trail features a gentle, muddy terrain and can be completed on foot in about one hour. Winding along the trail, hikers can enjoy rich natural ecology and experience the dramatic steep cliffs and gorges. Lushui sits on an alluvial terrace where the indigenous Tayal people once settled. The geological landscape exhibit established at the trailhead is free for visitors to explore, offering educational resources on the unique geology and topography of Taroko. The Huliu Campsite is a well-equipped facility located in a comfortable and flat area, where visitors may enjoy captivating gorges scenery.
