The Green Island Human Rights Culture Park covers approximately 32 hectares and encompasses a wide range of sites, including General's Rock, the Human Rights Memorial Park, Green Oasis Lodge, Zhuangjing Camp (New Life Guidance Office), Green Island Vocational Training Center, and Swallow's Cave, all holding significant historical importance in human rights development.
Green Oasis Lodge, officially known as the "Ministry of Defense Green Island Rehabilitation Prison," originated from the "Taipower Incident" that occurred in Green Island on February 8, 1970. Following this incident, the National Government constructed a high-walled prison on the western side of Green Island. This structure evolved into the present Green Oasis Lodge. Subsequently, political prisoners from Taipower Prison and other military prisons across the country were moved to this site for centralized management, undergoing rehabilitation education and ideological re-education, transforming it into a concentration camp for victims of human rights violations and political persecution incidents. Martial law was lifted in 1987, after which Green Oasis Lodge was decommissioned.
Encircled by towering walls, Green Oasis Lodge is a typical enclosed prison. Various patriotic slogans were painted on the walls, such as "Firmly Anti-Communist," "Endless Suffering," "Never Forget莒," "Redemption Lies Ahead," and "Eliminate the Communists, Restore the Nation." The main structure of the entire prison consists of single and double-story cells. The internal layout forms a hexagonal shape; however, locals on Green Island refer to it as the "Eight Trigrams Building." From the ancient mountain path overlooking Green Oasis Lodge, the building resembles the shape of a Bagua (Eight Trigrams) symbol.
