Military enthusiasts should not miss this gathering of retired military hardware in the wetland-ecology renowned Zhentou area of Dayuan. Navy destroyers, landing craft trucks, and the F5E fighter jet "Chung Cheng" have quietly appeared beneath the overpass of the coastal expressway, Ta-61 Line. Want to experience the coolness of a pilot or meet up close with the legendary "battlefield heroes" of yesteryear? Head to the military history park in Zhentou to satisfy your military cravings. Each piece on display carries its own story. The F5E fighter jet, serving as a key defense force for the Taiwan Strait, was co-produced by Taiwan and the United States. It was named "Chung Cheng" in honor of President Chiang Kai-shek’s 88th birthday. Sharp-eyed military enthusiasts can easily notice that this jet also appeared in the film "Top Gun." Standing before the 3-meter-high aircraft, imagining the intense aerial battles from the movie adds to the travel enjoyment. Additionally, the M48A3 medium tanks manufactured in the U.S. were the main force for rugged terrain combat in the 1980s. Nearby, the sea anchor and propeller blade from the Jiangyang frigate, which survived heavy impacts from the Kamikaze units, now remain as parts of the vessel once called the "lucky ship"—rumors suggest commanding officers aboard had significantly greater chances of being promoted to general. Other items include the LVT.P5-A1 landing transport vehicle that survived the 2nd August 3rd Artillery Battle and a 5-inch/38-caliber single-barrel naval gun, taking you into the shocking history of war. Beyond the impressive retired military equipment, the park also houses preserved stone lions and dragon pillars from the Daoyuan Renshou Palace during renovation works. The venue has been planned with children's playgrounds, health trails, simple fitness facilities, and scenic and cartoon-themed murals on bridge pillars, creating a comfortable rest area.
