Next to the harbor on Jibei Islet is the Jibei Visitor Center, which provides information on homestays, boat trips, and tourist attractions, and is also a great place to rest and wait for your ship. To the east of the visitor center is the Jibei Stone Weir Culture Museum, established to preserve the traditional stone weir culture. The Penghu Islands are home to the largest number of stone weirs in the world, with nearly 600 weirs in total, and Jibei alone has nearly 100, earning it the nickname "The Hometown of Stone Weirs." Stone weirs are a traditional type of fishing traps built in the intertidal zone using piled-up rocks to form embankments. When the tide rises, fish are led into the weir, and when the tide recedes, the fish are trapped inside. The construction of stone weirs requires teamwork, and the group involved is akin to shareholders of the weir. Once completed, lots are drawn to determine the order of responsibility for inspecting and harvesting the fish each day. This is a fishing technique that works in harmony with nature, based on a mechanism of sharing and coexistence. It not only serves as a model of mutual assistance but also forms the social foundation of Jibei's early community, holding significant cultural importance. Therefore, the "Jibei Stone Weir Culture Museum" is divided into static exhibits and multimedia video presentations, showcasing over 100 early-life tools, explaining the structure, construction, and fishing methods of stone weirs, to enhance public understanding and serve as a means of preserving this traditional technique.
