As times change, Cihu Mausoleum has become the "Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Ching-kuo Cultural Park," a recreational site with international tourism competitiveness. When visiting Great West Cihu, be sure not to miss the two nature-friendly trails near the mausoleum: the Taoliang Ecological Trail and the Cihu Trail. Adjacent to the Cihu Mausoleum, the 1.2-kilometer long Taoliang Ecological Trail winds along Caoling Creek, offering open fields and natural views. Walking up the Cihu Trail leads to a sightseeing area where one can admire the beautiful white swans on Cihu Lake, with the change of soldiers' ceremonial guard becoming the highlight performance worth watching. The Taoliang Ecological Trail’s entrance is right next to the Great West Mausoleum. Being close to the creek side, visitors can enjoy the stream scenery with the sight of elegant egrets flying overhead from time to time. The minimal explanation signs about Caoling Creek's ecology along the trail, plus the accompanying relaxing sound of flowing water, give a particularly soothing experience. The trail is wide and gently sloped, making it suitable for people of all ages for outdoor outings even during hot summer months. Additionally, don’t forget to gaze at the unique shield volcano - Caoling Mountain in Taoyuan area, which is also the only such type on the main island of Taiwan. Although no longer active, the volcano’s lush greenery is still impressive; during the winter fallow season, the area is further adorned by the vibrant Mexican sunflower fields that leave lasting memories. The Taoliang Trail takes approximately 20 minutes for one way. Next is the Cihu Trail from the Cihu Visitors Center. Before starting the walk, visitors may acquire travel information about Cihu and nearby attractions at the center, where exhibits and films on Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Ching-kuo era history are presented, also making the hall another point of interest. Entering the Cihu Trail near the center, although short in length, this path allows viewing of Cihu's scenery from new angles. Surrounded by trees and bamboo along the narrow trail with ample shade, little sun exposure makes the walk particularly refreshing. Following the scenic Cihu shoreline brings you to the trail’s endpoint - the Cihu Mausoleum, which boasts mountain-backed and lakeside terrain. Renowned for Chiang Kai-shek’s interment here, this site is guarded by soldiers in uniform, with the hourly ceremonial guard change, including fancy gun drills, drawing crowds from all over to spectate.
