The newly completed Daqingdong has brought a fresh tourism landscape to Taoyuan's Dasi area, offering a visual surprise to walks through the ancient city. Located beneath the Dasi Bridge and near the Dahan River, Daqingdong used to be a narrow tunnel on the essential route between Taoyuan and Dasi. However, it was no longer a major transportation thoroughfare after the completion of Wuling Bridge. With renovations by Taoyuan City Government and Dasi District Office, Daqingdong has successfully transformed into an access point for leisurely scenic trails. Stone pathways now connect the tunnel to Dasi Old Street, making it a must-visit attraction for visitors exploring the area. Historically called the entrance of Dasi, Daqingdong, measures 27.5 meters long, 5 meters wide, and 5.8 meters high. Initially a highway tunnel, its narrow entrance caused traffic congestion due to the increasing size of vehicles. During the transfer of President Chiang Kai-shek's remains to Cihu, his funeral procession's height necessitated an emergency two-meter reduction in the tunnel floor to allow passage, creating the unique elevated road surface seen today. After the opening of Wuling Bridge, it ceased serving vehicle traffic and became a pedestrian-only area.
Exploring the renowned Dasi Old Street is possible by ascending the century-old stone path adjacent to Daqingdong. This street, representative of Dasi's local character, features Baroque-style street houses and deep historical traces that evoke nostalgia. Decorative patterns on residential walls not only serve aesthetic purposes but harmonize with the Baroque architecture of the buildings. The concept of an ecological museum has been introduced, linking historical street houses to enhance the warmth and depth of Dasi's overall tourism experience.
