Longfeng Palace enshrines the deities including Chankui Zushi (the Regretful Master), Xuanyuan Shangdi (the Celestial Emperor), Tian Shengmu (Holy Mother of Heaven), Jiutian Xuannu (Nine Heavens Female Sage), Sanshidaizi (Third Prince) and the Foduo Zhengshen (Village Spirit). It serves as a center of faith for the inhabitants of Sun and Moon Lakes. The Sun and Moon Lakes offer beautiful natural scenery, pleasant surroundings, and are a romantic place for young couples. Therefore, Professor Huang Huoshou suggested the then county magistrate of Nantou County, Yang Zhaobi, to build a Temple of the Old Pair under the Moon to allow visitors to worship and make wishes. As a result, a Pavilion of the Old Pair under the Moon, modeled after China's West Lake, was built on Lalu Island, but later destroyed during the 921 Earthquake. Henceforth, the statue of the Old Pair under the Moon was relocated to Longfeng Palace for enshrinement. The Old Pair under the Moon is well known for its efficacy. Unmarried young men and women visiting the Sun and Moon Lake could come here to worship the Old Pair under the Moon and pray for love to blossom.
