Houjian Mountain, one of the “Four Beauties of Sun Moon Lake,” stands at 1,008 m above sea level. The trailhead sits at 663 m at the terminal stop of the Nantou Bus Toushe line, giving a total ascent of roughly 345 m over a 6.5 km route that demands good stamina. There are three approaches to the summit; the main one starts in Toushe Village, Yuchi Township, Nantou County, beside the 663 m Nantou Bus terminus. Following County Road 62, the path passes a rest pavilion and picnic tables on the peak, from where the full panorama of Sun Moon Lake unfolds in a view of striking beauty.
