The Origin of Yanqing: Yanqing Woodcarving Puppet Studio was founded in 1974 by Mr. Hsu Yen-ching. Born in July 1951 in Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, Mr. Hsu loved carving figures on wood as a child. Over time he taught himself to sculpt lifelike puppet heads, then used colored brushes to paint the characters of his own imagination, each one vivid and expressive, and so plunged headlong into the world of puppet carving.
