Shakau Ma, also known as Shakau Matsu, is the main deity of the Shakau Futen Temple on the Hundred-Year Pilgrimage Road. According to legend, the temple was built during the Qianlong era. At that time, local merchants traveling to Puzi for trade witnessed the supernatural presence of the sacred mother on the Puzi foot, and so they begged for incense to be brought back to the village for worship. As a result, Shakau followers have historically gone to Puzi to visit the Futen Temple and pay respects to their ancestors.
