Penghu’s largest island, Jibei Island, is located north of Baisha Island. The island slopes from a higher elevation in the east to a lower one in the west; the eastern half features a relatively high basalt plateau, while the western half boasts extensive sandy beaches. The most famous attraction on the island is its 800‑meter-long and 300‑meter-wide sand spit, which is truly captivating. The sand tail stretches out into the sea, with crystal‑clear blue waters and a golden coastline that harmoniously reflect each other. The island offers holiday cottages for accommodation, making it a popular destination for summer getaways, honeymoons, and water activities. The most distinctive cultural landscape on Jibei Island is the stone tide gates (石滬). The surrounding waters are vast, and the tide gates are densely clustered, making Jibei the leader in Penghu for gate density, with only 88 remaining. Residents use the intertidal zone and tidal differences to fish, employing basalt‑constructed fish traps. These stone tide gates circle the coastline of Jibei, showcasing another facet of the island’s charm. The pier area is a hub for transportation, fishing, and tourism, hosting numerous businesses and car‑rental services that provide comprehensive accommodation, dining, and direct car rental. Additionally, a tourist service center serves as a consultation and relaxation spot for visitors. **Recommended stay time:** 4 hours or a night at a local guesthouse.
