2022 Golden Store Feature: Youji Century-Old Oil Rice Founded in 1862, Youji Century-Old Oil Rice has long served the Daxi community of Taoyuan with rice-based dishes, aiming to satisfy guests with simple yet honest food that leaves them feeling the trip was worthwhile. In the beginning, a single shoulder-pole carried leaf-wrapped oil rice through the streets, bartering for the family’s next meal. Business grew, and the leaf-wrapped oil rice evolved into meat zongzi, offering laborers a quick, ready-to-eat rice snack. The fourth generation took over in 1986, transforming the old shop into a branded enterprise that soon became a favorite of the media. After more than 150 years of heritage, the family hopes to last another century. Going forward, they will keep developing new products and expanding sales channels so visitors everywhere can learn more about Daxi and about Youji Century-Old Oil Rice.
