The Da-Tong Culture and Arts Center, located at the intersection of Guangyuan Road and Da Tong Road, was officially opened in 2012. It serves as a multifunctional art field established to respond to the future refined cultural development of Kaohsiung City. The hardware architecture of the arts center embodies the minimalist aesthetic of Kisho Kurokawa. Its semi-transparent film-like canopy floats over the semi-open plaza like a hot air balloon, bringing in natural lighting, air circulation, and the curvilinear beauty of visual elements. At night, the fountains illuminated with lights paint the area with vibrant colors, making it the most beautiful highlight of the Da-Tong Culture and Arts Center.
The arts center also features a multi-functional performance hall with composite facilities, a visual exhibition hall designed for cultural and entrepreneurial business spaces, and a multimedia library specializing in the collection of art-related audio-visual works and books. Its diverse and refined exhibitions and performances offer the public valuable artistic spiritual nourishment. The integration of nature in the outdoor plaza often hosts enjoyable musical and dance performances, as well as lush green hills and exquisite sculpture installations, making it a highly desired leisure destination for visitors.
Connected via the Kaohsiung Metro, the Da-Tong Culture and Arts Center, Weiwuying National Cultural and Arts Center, and the Kaohsiung Cultural Center will form a complete urban arts belt, constructing a vibrant cultural stage for southern Taiwan.
