The Dapu Stone Carvings are an important historical site that records notable achievements. It is a third-tier cultural heritage site in Taiwan and Fujian, located at the southernmost tip of the East Culang Island. Discovered by the National Army in 1953, the Antiquity Pavilion was built to protect the site from potential damage. The carved stone slab inscribes the remarkable feat of General Shen Yourong from the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, who captured 69 Wokou pirates on East Culang Island without casualties to his troops or himself. The script itself was written by Dong Yingju, who was then the Deputy Minister of Works. This engraving provides a precious eyewitness to the early Matsu history of rampant Wokou raids. Looking ahead from the Dapu Stone Carvings, the surrounding Track Strips Fortress can be clearly seen. Descending along the wooden walkway to the seaside reveals rugged rocks and a completely different world. The Dapu Stone Carvings not only record General Shen Yourong's triumphant military achievement but are also the subject of local legends. Locals believe the carvings themselves function as a treasure map; deciphering the implied clues might lead visitors to hidden treasure somewhere on East Culang Island. Come up with your own theories when visiting the site! Note: The wooden path near the Dapu Stone Carvings is close to the sea and may be slippery due to long-term exposure to wind, rain, and sunlight. Visitors are advised to walk carefully. When exploring the rocky tidal zones near the sea, please pay attention to the tides and prioritize your safety.
