Located in Gongliao District, New Taipei City, the Magang Fishing Harbor is the easternmost fishing village in Taiwan, adjacent to the North Coast Highway, just below the San Diego Cape Lighthouse. Nearby, there are suitable spots for rock fishing, such as the Lai Lai Rock Fishing Ground and the Magang Rock Fishing Ground. The lighthouse is located on the mountain behind, making it a fishing port with a very good geographical location. The fishing boats in Magang Harbor often operate in the waters around Guishan Island and San Diego Bay, engaging in coastal fishing and returning on the same day. The main catches include grouper, bonito, small-scale fish, soft-shell fish, and lobster. Half of the catch is sold locally, while the other half is transported to Keelung City markets for auction or to processing plants for processing. Magang has a large area of coastal erosion platforms, with some landforms featuring beautiful curved patterns, making it an ideal spot to watch the waves and observe locals fishing and picking seaweed. Visitors can enjoy the sea breeze and take in the vast ocean views while stopping by Taiwan's easternmost cafe for a cup of coffee. Some people on the internet also refer to Magang Fishing Harbor as "Cat Village" due to the large number of cats in the area, which can be found everywhere, including in the plaza, on the seawall, at street corners, and on the rooftops of old houses.
