Hemei Fishing Harbor is located near Sandiao Cape on the northeast tip of New Taipei City. The coastline here is relatively simple: owing to subsidence and uneven uplift of the coast, combined with the influence of the northeasterly monsoon, waves produce active marine erosion, so sea cliffs can be seen everywhere. From Jinshan to Sandiao Cape the strata run perpendicular to the shoreline, and marine erosion is pronounced; softer rock is worn away to form bays that easily accumulate sand and become beaches, while harder rock protrudes above the sea to form headlands. The alternating pattern of headlands and bays creates the most varied headland-and-bay coastline in all of Taiwan.
