The owner of Xiangyuan YunTai Mian Small Eats, respectfully known as Grandma Chen, has earned a reputation on Huan Xin Street for her signature Yunnan–Myanmar dishes. Her food has been praised by many culinary experts and bloggers, and she is frequently invited to appear on food shows. Grandma Chen’s specialties include the iconic “Gaso Chicken”, Moon Shrimp Patties, and Pepper‑Stirred Chicken—every dish on the menu delivers an authentic hometown flavor. Many connoisseurs love this “mom’s taste” because the ingredients are honest, the sauces exude a distinctive foreign flair, and the prices are reasonable. Xiangyuan originally opened a single location, but it has since expanded to two outlets, all of which people visit just to try Grandma Chen’s cooking. The white rice at Xiangyuan is made from low‑fat Thai jasmine rice, which pairs wonderfully with the tart, spicy Yunnan‑Myanmar dishes, making for a truly satisfying meal. Grandma Chen jokes that although the shop sells Yunnan‑Myanmar cuisine, it carries on her father’s Hunan cooking expertise, her mother’s Yunnan techniques, her husband’s Cantonese skills, and her own specialization in Burmese dishes—eating here feels like dining at a United Nations banquet. Recommended dish: Papaya Chicken.
