嘉義市東區位於嘉義市東郊山仔頂附近,距市區3公里
The Lantan Back Mountain Trail is located on the east side of Lantan Reservoir and adjacent to Lantan Campus of National Chiayi University. The trail's elevation ranges from 80 to 150 meters, with a main line of approximately 3 kilometers. Despite its low overall elevation, the terrain is quite varied, featuring gentle, original soil paths, gravel trails, steep wooden boardwalks with 156 steps, and stone slab staircases. The trail offers pavilions for rest, soothing sounds of flowing water, and a romantic setting with Taiwan red cypress trees. The trail is lined with lush foliage, and the sounds of birdsong are continuous, making it a delightful and refreshing forest bathing spot. The trail passes through Shanzi Ding Mountain (elevation 141m) and Hongmaopi Mountain (elevation 150m), with the latter being one of Taiwan's Small Hundred Mountains. You can experience the thrill of conquering a mountain peak without having to travel far, and the entire trail can be completed within 2 hours. This makes it an ideal trail for general public exercise and leisure, as well as for beginner hikers to practice. The Lantan Back Mountain Trail has orange kilometer markers every 50 meters, indicating the location's coordinates to prevent getting lost. There are also signs explaining common plants and animals. The trail has intentionally preserved old nameplates passed down through word of mouth, such as "New Paradise," "Lake Bottom," "Small Park," "Bamboo Shoots Hut," and "Back Garden." For example, "Lake Bottom" got its name because the trail used to have poor drainage, causing water accumulation during the summer rainy season, creating a small lake-like scene. "Bamboo Shoots Hut" originated from the dense bamboo forest near the trail, where locals built simple huts for easy access to bamboo shoots, giving rise to the term. Many interesting place names are hidden in the mountains, waiting for hikers to explore.
