In the bay of the southern pier of Jibei Island, a “Jibei Stonehouse Culture Museum” was specially established to preserve the traditional stonehouse culture. It is located on the east side of the Jibei Tourist Service Center, a community‑run cultural venue that also functions as an alternative museum. The museum was founded to compile Jibei Island’s stonehouse culture, promote stonehouse ecology, and showcase scenic aspects. Stonehouses are a distinctive feature of the reef‑fishing culture, spread across the Penghu archipelago. Their types are largely similar, each typically featuring a fish‑holding “house” and a “stretch‑leg” on either side. The stretch legs are designed in a “spiral tail” shape to accommodate the fish’s swimming inertia, allowing fish to enter but preventing them from escaping—an ingenious solution by our ancestors to replenish fish stocks. Covering about thirty ping (roughly 99 square meters), the museum’s exhibits are divided into static displays and multimedia video presentations. Early village life tools for agriculture, fishing, and pastoralism are showcased, including stone mills, various jars, and electric soil lamps—over one hundred items in total. The corridors feature stonehouse models, imprint scrolls, and indoor displays of stonehouse structures, construction methods, and fishing techniques. Additionally, guided tours are offered at every hour, enhancing visitors’ understanding of traditional stonehouse fishing. **Suggested visit duration:** 1 hour
