Shaxi Fortress, located on a promontory outside Qingqi Village, is primarily composed of granite gneiss and granite. Viewed from Nanshan Tou angle, it resembles a bird's beak, thus earning the name "Fengzui" (Phoenix Beak). The strategically positioned Shaxi Fortress commands a view of Dading, Erdan, Binlangyu, and Xiamen, and in military terms, it shouldered great responsibilities. Much like military outposts on both Kinmen and Liouguei, the military compound features complete facilities including bunkers, ammunition depots, and tunnels. After military presence was reduced, the base was revitalized and reconstructed. Now, at this westernmost location of Taiwan, an observation pavilion has been established. Following the seaside path to the pavilion, one can feel as if being embraced by the endless blue sea, making it an unmissable scenic spot beloved by photography enthusiasts!
