According to the Kinmen County Gazetteer, Shami Wanan Temple was built during the Yuan Dynasty, with a history of more than 700 years, making it the oldest Guanyin Temple of the God of Medicine in Kinmen County. The God of Medicine is a "medical deity" in folk beliefs, commonly known as "Daogong," "Wu Zhenren," and "Huaqiao Gong." In the era when medical science was not developed, when someone in the family was sick, people would go to the temple to pray for medicine and healing, which was very effective. Therefore, the God of Medicine became an important deity in Kinmen's folk beliefs for seeking blessings and curing diseases. After three reconstructions, the current location of Wanan Temple is the place where it was later relocated and rebuilt. In 2009, it was combined with the local environment to become the "Wanan Temple Origin Park," featuring a stone statue of the God of Medicine riding a white horse, stone tablets recording his life story, and twelve zodiac lucky stones. It was selected as one of the "100 Scenic Spots of Taiwanese Religion."
