The Kinmen History and Folk Museum opened on December 25, 2010. On January 1, 2014, the management unit "Kinmen County Cultural Park Management Office" was established. The museum is located on the eastern half of Kinmen Island, on the banks of the Jinsha River, and is flanked by Mount Taiwu and Mount Jingu. The Fujian-style architecture is nestled in the hills and beside the river, surrounded by serene lake and water scenery. The museum is built on the foundation of Kinmen studies, dedicated to preserving and showcasing Kinmen's historical and cultural heritage, as well as traditional folk customs. The museum aims to present the island's unique charm and local perspective from multiple angles, highlighting the significance and value of Kinmen culture in relation to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, and international connections. The ultimate goal is to transform Kinmen's museums and create an accessible cultural institution for all, shaping Kinmen into a "cultural gateway" and a "tourism starting point".
