The population density of the residents of Yushan Island in Baisha Township is only second to that of Jibei Island. Most of Yushan's residents live off fishing, and typical Penghu fishing village life can be seen everywhere. Located next to Yushan's fishing port, you can enjoy a 180‑degree unobstructed view of the natural sea scenery. On the east coast of Yushan, basalt columns stand tall. In the north, due to the northeast monsoon and the erosive action of seawater, you can see a red, onion‑shaped weathering landscape of basalt, with the lowest layer being volcanic angular rock, creating a magnificent and beautiful view; the eastern side of the island displays basalt in columnar form, presenting a completely different character from the northern coast. On the back hill of Yushan, during low tide it connects with the southern hanging island, forming the peculiar sight of “sea‐drying” (the seafloor becomes visible after the water recedes). The area of Yushan changes dramatically between high and low tide: at high tide it is 0.265 km²; at low tide it expands to 1.098 km² and connects with the northern southern hanging island. From the east end of the island to the northern southern hanging island, west of Xiaobai Island, and south of Qujiao Island, it forms a vast sea‑erosion platform, with a standard fringe reef along its edge. Pengpeng Beach lies to the southwest of Yushan, a newly formed sandbar in the waters north of Yuanbei Island, about 1,000 meters long, and is one of the most famous attractions in Penghu.
