The Beitou Cultural Relics Museum officially opened as a private museum in 1984. This elegant garden and two-story traditional Japanese wooden building spanning 800 ping, nestled among the mountains, was constructed in 1921. It initially served as the highest-class “Kasama Onsen Hotel” in the Beitou area. In 1983, the founder Mr. Zhang Chun-ming repurposed the historical site into a museum known as the “Taiwan Folk Art and Cultural Relics Home,” and was officially renamed “Beitou Cultural Relics Museum” in 1987. We remain committed to preserving and showcasing early Taiwanese folk art and cultural relics. Our collection comprises nearly 5,000 items, mainly focusing on traditional crafts from the late Qing Dynasty, Japanese colonial era, and up to the 1970s. It includes over 1,000 artifacts from the indigenous peoples of Taiwan, as well as more than 3,000 artifacts representing the Han cultures of the Hokkien and Hakka communities.
Culinary Dining
Our facility also features the Yirenju restaurant space, offering exquisite creative kaiseki cuisine and afternoon tea, as well as smaller meeting room rentals. The Sakura-viewing terrace outside Yirenju provides a close-up view of Danfeng Hill and a distant vista of Guanyin Hill. Enjoy the museum’s specially prepared healthy light meals—such as our health-conscious creative kaiseki cuisine—surrounded by the captivating outdoor scenery. Escape urban bustle and savor leisurely dining with unique charm.
Cultural Experiences
Under the concept of diverse cultural operations, the museum currently utilizes the large open hall for performances, art and cultural activities, as well as event and conference room rentals, fully revitalizing the historical site for modern use. We occasionally host various experience workshops, such as tea ceremony demonstrations, formal tea courses, wagashi (Japanese confectionery) workshops, and the Jiashan Zhuazhou Ceremony.
