The Garden Outside the Birdcage

2024-04-11
台北市大安區敦化南路(仁愛路至忠孝東路間)
The garden outside the birdcage located on the median island at the intersection of Dunhua South Road and Anhe Road is a notably intriguing creation. A healthy tree is confined within a cage, while paradoxically, birds can freely enter and exit the cage due to its extremely large lattice structure.
Ms. Hsu Hsiu-mei, the artist, graduated from the Parsons School of Design in New York City and has been working in Taiwan in the fields of visual arts and illustration. This piece is made of stainless steel tubes and fiberglass. The creative concept stems from the artist’s perspective as a Taipei native, who appreciates the urban sophistication and modern aesthetics embodied by the Dunhua North and South Road urban landscape. Yet beneath the clamor and bustle of city life, there remains a space for contemplation. Within the green corridors of trees lining Dunhua South Road, this "Spring of the Birdcage" installation offers citizens a sanctuary of urban tranquility.
