"Little Garden" should start from Shanghai in 1936. The current owner, Chen Hongyi, his grandfather Chen Chuxue was a shoemaker who opened a "Little Garden" embroidered shoe shop on Simalu Road in Shanghai. He carried his bag and visited wealthy merchants, warlords, and nobles, making custom embroidered shoes for the ladies of wealthy families. In 1949, the Chen family moved from Shanghai to Taiwan, still continuing their trade. At that time, "Little Garden" located on Chengdu Road became Taipei's first embroidered shoe shop.
Today, it is located in a corner of the bustling Ximending area. The shop has no excessive decoration, and the window displays different styles of embroidered shoes, exuding a strong sense of era and fashion. After three-quarters of a century, encountering embroidered shoes in the bustling Ximending, the trajectory of the changing times is performed one by one on the colorful embroidered shoes of "Little Garden."
Retro style has brought embroidered shoes back into the fashion trend. Since "Little Garden Embroidered Shoe Shop" was awarded the "Taipei Old Store" by the Taipei City Government in 1998, it has become one of the must-buy items for Japanese tourists visiting Taipei, as it represents a traditional and nostalgic memory of Taipei.
