The south-west coast of Tongsandao has a wave-cut platform, also known as a marine terrace or a wave-eroded platform. As the name suggests, it is formed when waves erode the sea cliff continuously, causing it to gradually retreat and create a flat rock platform nearly at the same level of the sea surface.

On this wave-cut platform sits a unique structure called "Lotus Seat." In fact, it is the crater of a submerged volcano. The surrounding area is often eroded by seawater and sunken, leaving only a small central hillrise resembling a lotus throne, hence the name; locals also call it the "Lotus Terrace."

The outer edge of the Lotus Seat is composed of basalt, while the center contains seawater left by high tides, along with traces of eroded basalt. When the tide retreats, the whole Lotus Seat emerges like lotus flowers rising from the water. If combined with the golden hues of the setting sun, one might mistakenly believe they're in a fairyland.
