Dongyuping Island among the Southern Four Islands is a volcanic rock island formed in Penghu, characterized by a basalt tableland landscape. Basi Alt rock joints scenery is ubiquitous on the island. Its eastern and northern shores exhibit landforms such as sea cave gullies, sea caves, and sea columns. The southern and western shores, on the other hand, are composed of sandy gravels made from coral debris, while the rest are steep columnar basalt sea cliffs. Near the southwestern dock, there is a rock mass composed of volcanic breccia and dikes, locally called "Tazi." Indeed, the Dongyuping Island is composed of two landmasses to the north and south, commonly referred to as "Front Mountain" and "Back Mountain." The northern landmass, the Back Mountain, reveals many remnants of farmland for cultivating protective crops as well as terraced fields built along the landform, a rare sight in Penghu. The flat valley between "Front Mountain" and "Back Mountain" is called "Shagongzi," where the largest settlement is concentrated. Along the sheltered slope from the southern to northern side near the harbor, housing extend, accompanied by two protective stone towers, the Golden Dragon Tower and the Chi Fu Tower. Following the circular trails of Front and Back Mountains as well as connecting to the Chi Fu Tower and the seaside trail will lead visitors to the "Front Mountain" standing at the edge of Dongyuping Harbor. From there, visitors can fully appreciate the island's natural and cultural landscapes from various perspectives. The surrounding seas boast rich ecological features with abundant corals, the most eye-catching being the purple horn coral, a kind of coral called the underwater lavender. The large patch of dreamy purple coral forest creates an unforgettable experience for visitors.
