Siang-Gao has a unique ecological environment and is listed as one of Taiwan's four major wetlands. It includes salt fields, waterways, canals, and ditches. The rich environment provides a habitat and food source for waterfowl. Over 160 species of birds have been spotted here, including 21 species that are endangered or rare, such as the Black-faced Spoonbill, Red-kneed Dotterel, and Avocet. The most important landscape in Siang-Gao is the wetland, which has a unique plant and animal ecosystem. The plants and animals here coexist and depend on each other. The plants that contribute to this rich wetland landscape are the Red Mangrove, Lumnitzera racemosa, and Sea Holly, commonly known as mangroves. Their underground stems catch organic matter in the water, allowing the wetland to nurture a diverse range of ecological wonders. Every year from September to November is the best time to see migratory birds. During this period, especially in September and October, the salt fields are drained, and the shallow water provides more food for the birds. Around the Double Ten holiday, it is the peak season for viewing Black-faced Spoonbills. In May and June, it is the breeding peak for Red-kneed Dotterels. When observing birds, please keep in mind the saying, "The closer you get to the birds, the farther they will be from you." It's best to observe from a distance to respect nature and ensure its sustainability.
