The Longmen Coastal Industrial Park is located on the easternmost tip of Penghu Main Island, situated in the grassland area between the villages of Longmen and Guaye. Within the industrial park, the Longmen Houchuan Beach faces the Taiwan Strait and features famous tank-shaped restrooms and changing rooms. Walking up the stairs leads to stunning panoramic views. Due to its distance from the Longmen village settlement center, the area is relatively secluded and perfect for visitors seeking a hidden gem atmosphere.
Have you heard of the poetic phrase “Night Stillness at Longmen, Listening to Drumming Waves”? This line originates from the “Penghu Eight Scenes Poetry” written by the scholar Hsieh Chin-ying during the Guangxu era. The description arises from the dense underwater reefs and significant depth variations in the area. When waves enter this region, the topography creates a drumming sound, earning it the name “Drumming Waves at Longmen.” The sight during winter, under the powerful northeast monsoon, is remarkably spectacular as colossal waves crash onto the shores. For the best sound experience, head to the coast near the Longmen Fude Ancient Well or Longmen Fude Temple.
Continuing along the Huhsi Bicycle Trail leads to another Longmen village beach — the *Li Zhengjiao* Beach. In summer, it is ideal for swimming and snorkeling; in winter, under the northeast monsoon, waves crash onto shoreline rocks, fostering vibrant green seaweed growth, creating a unique landscape. This beach holds historical significance: alongside the trail, a “Li Zhengjiao Japanese Landing Monument” stands, erected by occupying Japanese forces after the Wochia War (1895). Constructed from granite, the original structure had three sections, now reduced to just the upper part, with its base later added. After Taiwan’s liberation in 1945, the inscription was ground and altered to “Taiwan Restoration Memorial,” later designated as a “County Designated Cultural Heritage Site” by Penghu County in 2000!
