The geographical setting of Longmen Houbay Beach and the adjacent East Nibu and Longgang Mountain form a mountain indent. This terrain resembles waves crashing directly into the village, generating malevolent qi that may adversely affect the villagers, hence the construction of the tower to control the water energy and mitigate harmful qi.
Legend states that when the tower was built, a live chicken was used in a ritual and placed at the tower's base. The stone tower's top had no decorations and could be seen through directly to the bottom. Elder villagers recall that as children, they always wanted to explore the tower's gaps to see if the legends of hidden objects were true, finding it highly amusing. The tower's base has eight supporting legs that symbolize controlling energy from all eight directions, hence it's also called the "Eight Trigrams Tower."
