San Feng Palace, originally named San Feng Pavilion, was first established during the Kangxi era of the Qing dynasty and has a history of over 300 years. It was the guardian deity of the local residents of Sankezuo (the area in front of Kaohsiung Train Station and near Jianguo 3rd Road). The principal deity worshipped here is Leizu the Third Prince, also known as Zhongtan Yuanshuai. In 1971, it was relocated to its current site on Hebei 2nd Road, and the northern-style three-story temple building is both elegant and grand in its carved decoration and color coordination. The door gods depicted with flat-painting artistic techniques are masterpieces by esteemed artist Pan Lishui, exuding dignity and meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, the expansive courtyard before the temple amplifies its majestic aura. San Feng Palace is the largest temple of the Leizu deity in all of Taiwan. During every celebration, lion dance teams from all regions gather and compete in night-long performances, attracting numerous believers. It has become the merriest and liveliest carnival in the religious world.
