The Guan Dao Shan Triangulation Point, with an elevation of 888 meters, is the main peak of the Guan Dao Shan mountain range and is located at the intersection of Dahu Township and Sanjia Township, Miaoli County. The nearby terrain is mostly gentle slopes and wide ridges, and Guan Dao Shan stands out like a heron standing among chickens, with an extremely prominent image. The north face of the main peak of Guan Dao Shan has steep cliffs and deep valleys. When looking up from the valley, it appears as if a single pillar supports the sky. The mountain got its name due to its shape resembling a Guan Dao (a type of Chinese sword).
The Guan Dao Shan area has an extremely rich and diverse ecology. The mountain top has a broad view, and you can walk down through multiple trails to visit Shengxing Railway Station, Yutian Bridge, Lidou Dam, and Shuangtan Leisure Agricultural Park. Every holiday, many people visit Guan Dao Shan in groups to get close to the forested mountains filled with phytoncide.
The Guan Dao Shan ridge-hopping ancient trail goes from Shengxing in Sanjia to Shinkai Bridge (National Highway 3) in Shuangtan. The Guan Dao Shan trail is the western section of the Guan Dao Shan ridge-hopping ancient trail, which is the section between Shengxing and Guan Dao Shan. This section is surrounded by the winding Lidou Dam and appears peaceful and quiet.
On the trail, you can see trees such as Xiangsi trees, Kuo-zhu, Oil Tong, Wu Jie Mang, and mountain taro. There are many bird species, such as the eyebrow bird, magpie, white-browed bird, and eight哥 (a type of starling). Many butterflies and reptiles live here, and it's a rich nurturing ground for life.
From the Sanjia interchange, it takes about 10 minutes to drive to Shengxing Railway Station. You can choose to start from here or continue to the parking lot at the Forked Road Plaza and start walking.
The Shengxing Railway Station, built in 1906, is the highest point on the western railway of Taiwan. The wooden station, built without iron nails, presents a Japanese architectural style. In April 1999, the Miaoli County government announced it as a county-level historic site, and it has been preserved due to its deep historical and cultural value, attracting many visitors to experience the old mountain railway atmosphere.
The station is surrounded by flowers and trees, and the scenery is pleasant. Nearby, oil tung trees line the mountain top. During April and May, white flowers decorate the green scenery with elegance. Next to the station, there are many shops and restaurants that provide local cuisine and snacks.
From Shengxing Railway Station, follow the fork in the road to the right. The path has a gentle slope upward, passing by the Land God Temple and Dacaopai. The trail is shaded and lined with bird songs.
To get to the trailhead, follow the cement road on the left from the Forked Road Plaza. Continue to the trailhead and take the fork on the right to reach the abandoned house. The trail to the southwest side of Guan Dao Shan is on the right behind the house.
The mountain top provides a great view, and you can see white clouds, layers of mountains, and green trees. During sunset, the red and orange hues paint the sky, creating a dreamy and beautiful scene that makes visitors take non-stop photos.
In autumn and winter, the sea of clouds rises from Guan Dao Shan, creating a scene of "sea and mountains" that attracts many visitors.
From the open area on the mountain top, you can find the triangulation point on the left. On the way back, you can descend from the southeast side of the mountain top via a rope ladder and guardrail to the southeast trailhead. Then, take the industrial road to the right and connect to the southwest trailhead to return via the original path.
