In the spring of 2021, the Guguan Visitor Center was transformed into a local miniature museum to welcome travelers, hoping that visitors would use it as the best review relay station and knowledge recharge starting point before exploring Guguan and going hiking or soaking in hot springs. With the Central Cross-Island Highway as the longitude and low, middle, and high elevations as the latitude, it re-introduces the history, geography, and ecological resources of Guguan in a gradual manner. Then, walking to the ShaoLai Trail, through new signage and design creations, it forms a natural guided tour field, opening up a real sensory experience journey for travelers entering the Guan, walking into the Guguan mountains and forests and between springs.
B1 Bird Illustrations:
Most of the common birds in Guguan are representative bird species at low and middle elevations in Taiwan, including resident birds and those that appear during specific seasons. Due to its proximity to the Dajiang Stream, there are also traces of stream birds. The diverse forest characteristics provide a large amount of food sources and safe and secluded habitats. Visitors are especially recommended to come to Guguan to watch birds every winter to the following spring. The birdsong rising and falling in the mountains, with flying postures, live freely in the mountains.
B2 Plant Images and Installations:
Through actual field surveys, the rich natural scenery of Guguan was divided into nine chapters for image display. The elevation difference in Guguan, mixed with the colors of the scenery, allows visitors to see everyday plants while walking in the mountains and also to see the high-altitude coniferous and broadleaf forests. There are common rhododendrons, Taiwan five-needle pines growing in harsh terrain, or Taiwan two-leaf pines growing in flat areas and appearing tall, as well as mosses and ferns growing on the ground. These are all long-term residents of the Guguan area. The low-key native species and the exuberant non-native species form a unique appearance.
Outdoor areas have large patches of shade, under which visitors can talk, rest, or have picnics. The plaza also hosts activities from time to time, with occasional singing or dance performances to enjoy. The outdoor foot-soaking pool is also one of the highlights of the Guguan Visitor Center. Unlike other visitor centers, visitors can sit by the pool, remove their shoes, and soak their feet. Fish swim in the pool, and when visitors put their feet in, the fish will kiss them, causing a slightly itchy sensation. However, visitors should note that if they move significantly in the pool, the fish may be frightened and scatter.
