In Hakka, "崠" means "top" or "peak". 十分崠古道, which translates to "Ten Parts Ridge Ancient Trail", was an important trail for early settlers to develop the Dahu Basin, Daliou Village, and Nanhu Village. The original ancient trail started from Longxin Village, Tongluo Township, followed the upstream of the Xin Jilongxi Stream, crossed Ten Parts Ridge, passed Nanhu Pit and Caoyang Ridge, to Zhugaowu, Dahu, or from Nanhu Pit, followed the stream down to the Nanhu area. Since Ten Parts Ridge is the lowest saddle of the Guandao Mountain Range, the ancient trail became an important road connecting Tongluo and Sanyi to Dahu, and has been completely replaced by a cement road.
Ten Parts Ridge is located on a small hill on the ridge of Guandao Mountain. It got its name because early settlers built 10 brain-stewing stoves here.
The eastern section of the Ten Parts Ridge Ancient Trail belongs to Nanhu Pit, leading to Dahu or Nanhu. The valley is mostly planted with strawberries, and residents make a living by farming.
History:
Early trails mostly went from west to east. Initially, settlers crossed the Guandao Mountain Range from Tongluo and Sanyi, and developed several east-west trails. The Ten Parts Ridge Ancient Trail became the most important one for developing the Dahu area. After the 1870s, it gradually became a trail over the Guandao Mountain Range into Dahu. During the development of Dahu Township, the salt road and postal road from Tongluo along the old Jilongxi Stream into the mountain, reaching the Xinjilong area, was an important route for Hakka settlers, preserving traditional Hakka farms and mountain lifestyles.
Safety:
Although the trail is on a ridge, it's not steep, with a moderate slope. The trail has complete public facilities at the starting and ending points.
Trail length: 9 km; Walking time: one way about 2 hours and 20 minutes.
