新北市淡水區環河道路
The Golden Waterfront section of Tamsui Old Street—from the Hoh Tsong Temple to the small fishing port—has officially opened to the public. The area has been master-planned through a series of pocket spaces along the route, including tree-lined walkways, a riverside promenade, fishing zones, a floating stage, café seating, and a tidal-viewing cove. Strolling along the Tamsui River, you’ll see the once-tired shop-fronts refreshed and a parade of intriguing new stores. Claim a seat at a European-style café on the bank, sip a coffee, and gaze across at Guanyin Mountain and the river mouth; the sweeping view is pure serenity. Hop on a speedboat to Fisherman’s Wharf and you’ll spot the unique blend of East and West etched along the shoreline, while Tamsui’s restored historic sites revive the old riverside glamour—memories guaranteed. The riverside everyone knows hides an elegantly named bike path: the “Golden Waterfront.” It starts at the Zhonggang River entrance near Guandu Temple and hugs the water all the way to Tamsui Old Street. The 10-kilometre trail is flat and family-friendly—perfect for spotting egrets and fiddler crabs while you pedal. Arrive at the famous Tamsui Old Street: both sides are crammed with lively shops—traditional rice stores, bakeries, fabric shops and old-style groceries shoulder-to-shoulder with trendy boutiques and toy stores, a fusion of past and present. Hunt for treasures, snack your way through local delicacies, and drop into historic sites—never a dull moment for visitors. The street splits into the outer riverfront (Golden Waterfront promenade) and the inner old street. Must-eat specialties include old-school freshly baked cakes, “a-ge” fried tofu, grilled squid, Grandma’s iron eggs, crunchy fish floss, jumbo ice-cream cones, and fish-ball soup—foods no trip to the old street is complete without.
